The siege of Bastogne was the last big punch that the Nazis had. American General Anthony McAuliffe gave the famous reply of "Nuts" to a German request for his surrender. The Germans asked, "Is that reply negative or affirmative?" to which the Americans answered by stating, "The reply is decidedly not affirmative", adding, "If you continue this foolish attack, your losses will be tremendous."
